1.

a glove fell from some hand
and landed at some feet

2.

a man lifted it
and when he looked along the street
was thick with hats
and bags and winter coats

he couldn’t see whose it was

3.

so he stood
for a moment
and wondered

what to do?
what to do?

4.

his eyes wandered leather creases
for direction

but he let it fall
and walked off

5.

then
at his side someone
said excuse me
you’ve dropped your glove

not wanting to appear ungrateful
or explain
he thanked the person
and took it back
