At the end of fear, a halter in furnished gaps
synthesis of matter and flailing
gives over to you an axiom from which to bend.
Solid though half the achievement is, enter other doubt
hardening over the eyes’ pencilled-in benison
to undo all known good at one belting pulse
and pack the encultured face off to memory camp.
Reversing back out of what ignorance took for a short-cut
but drew out nine years to a hundred, rejected frame by frame,
the incline so steep at the cusp that the back-seat driver spilled
his surplus on retro cobbles in the Merchant City,
the vehicle, a subject particle
going itself forth, allied with lost potential,
plutonic drag trashed by looking with contacts in
to body gone, gives up the smashed-up leer,
an item in the cold crowd God does not compute.
